From Hell AND Deathblow Byblows - Alan Moore

From Hell is a graphic novel by writer Alan Moore and artist Eddie Campbell speculating upon the identity and motives of Jack the Ripper. The title is taken from the first words of the "From Hell" letter, which some authorities believe was an authentic message sent from the killer in 1888. The work is dense, multilayered and immensely detailed; the collected edition is about 572 pages long.

From Hell was made into a film in 2001. It was directed by the Hughes Brothers, and first released on October 19, 2001. It stared Johnny Depp and Heather Graham.

Men in Black

The Men in Black was a comic book created and written by Lowell Cunningham, illustrated by Sandy Carruthers, and published by Aircel Comics. Aircel would later be bought out by Malibu Comics, which itself was bought out by Marvel Comics. Three issues were published in 1990, with another three the following year.

They inspired the 1997 film Men in Black and its sequel and spinoffs, including the TV show Men in Black: The Series.

Men in Black is a 1997 science fiction comedy action film directed by Barry Sonnenfeld, starring Tommy Lee Jones, Will Smith and Vincent D'Onofrio. The movie was a hit, grossing over USD$250 million in the United States and over $589 million worldwide. It was followed by a sequel, Men in Black II, in 2002.

1963 by Alan Moore

1963 is a six-issue comic book limited series written by Alan Moore in 1993, with art by his frequent collaborators Steve Bissette, John Totleben, and Rick Veitch; other contributors included Dave Gibbons, Don Simpson, and Jim Valentino. It has technically never been finished, as the complete package was originally intended to comprise six issues and an 80-page Annual, of which only the six issues have been printed, by Image Comics. The comics also contained advertisements for "1963 1/2", which never surfaced either. However the Tomorrow Syndicate would appear alongside Big Bang Comics' Round Table of America, in an issue of Valentino's A Touch of Silver.

The six issues hark back to the Silver Age of American comics (in particular, the early Marvel Comics), and feature spoof advertisements on the rear covers—in a manner to be repeated with a twist by Moore and Kevin O'Neill in The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

Moore's homage to Marvel clichés included fictionalizing himself and the artists as the "Sixty-Three Sweatshop", describing his collaborators in the same hyperbolic and alliterative mode Stan Lee used for his "Marvel Bullpen"; each was given a Lee-style nickname (Affable Al, Sturdy Steve, Jaunty John, etc.—Veitch has since continued to refer to himself as "Roarin' Rick"). The parody is not entirely affectionate, as the text pieces and fictional letter columns contain pointed inside jokes about the business practices of 1960s comics publishers, with "Affable Al" portrayed as a tyrant who claims credit for his employees' creations. Moore also makes reference to Lee's self congratulatory book "Origins of Marvel Comics" (and the interminable sequels) when Affable Al recommends that readers hurry out and buy his new book "How I Created Everything All By Myself and Why I Am Great".

Star Wars: Darth Maul

Darth Maul is a 4-issue comics series published by Dark Horse Comics featuring Darth Maul.

The series is set in the Star Wars galaxy shortly before the Battle of Naboo in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and about 32 years before the Battle of Yavin in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

The story follows Darth Maul, a Dark Lord of the Sith, in his mission to destroy the leadership of the crime syndicate Black Sun.

Star Wars: Dark Empire

Dark Empire was a series of comic books written by Tom Veitch and illustrated by Cam Kennedy. They were originally released by Dark Horse Comics in 1991 and 1992 as a 6-issue bi-monthly series, which were later compiled and sold in trade paperback form. The trilogy includes the two sequels Dark Empire II and Empire's End. All three comic series detailed the resurrection of Emperor Palpatine in cloned bodies.

Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan: Last Stand on Ord Mantell is a three-part comics series written by Ryder Windham, and published by Dark Horse Comics between December 2000 and March 2001. The series is set in the Star Wars galaxy five years before the Battle of Naboo in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and 37 years before the Battle of Yavin in Episode IV: A New Hope. The story features Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi, who are sent into deep space to search for a valuable cargo freighter when it fails to reach its destination on the planet Coruscant.

Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan: The Aurorient Express is a two-part comics series written by Mike Kennedy, and published by Dark Horse Comics between February 2002 and June 2002. The series is set in the Star Wars galaxy six years before the Battle of Naboo in Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace, and 38 years before the Battle of Yavin in Episode IV: A New Hope. The story features Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi. A luxury cloud cruiser has slipped out of control and is going to crash over Yorn Skot. The two Jedi must board the runaway ship and regain control.

Star Wars: Chewbacca

Chewbacca (or Chewie) is a fictional character in the Star Wars universe. He is portrayed by Peter Mayhew in the films Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, and Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith.

A towering, powerful Wookiee, he is best known as the co-pilot of Han Solo's ship, the Millennium Falcon.

In Episodes III, IV, V, and VI of the Star Wars films. In Episode III, Chewbacca, along with Tarfful, fights in the Clone Wars when their planet, Kashyyyk, is invaded. They also help to get Jedi Master Yoda to safety.

In Episode IV, Chewbacca and Han Solo accept a charter to take Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi and the droids C-3PO and R2-D2 to the planet Alderaan. When they find that the planet has been destroyed by the Death Star, however, the two mercenaries are dragged into the Rebel Alliance. In Episodes V and VI, they become important figures in the Alliance, and eventually help the Rebels defeat the Galactic Empire.

Star Wars: Boba Fett

Boba Fett is a fictional character in the Star Wars universe. In the films, he is a bounty hunter hired by the Empire and Jabba the Hutt to track down and capture Han Solo and Chewbacca. He appears in Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi, The Star Wars Holiday Special and in the Special Edition of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope.

Boba Fett is garbed in traditional Mandalorian armor with a cape, and several braids made of Wookiee pelts at his shoulder. His gauntlets also feature a wrist-mounted flame thrower, sonic beam weapons, dart shooter, several blades, and a fibercord whip with a grappling hook. Other weapons include a jetpack with a miniature concussion rocket launcher, rocket dart launchers, grenades, gas pellets, and a pulse cannon. Tools include a lock breaker, battle computer, HUD system, macrobinocular viewplate, gauntlet control panel, and a motion sensor. The antenna on his helmet serves as a radio receiver/transmitter, and is also a targeting computer/rangefinder. His main weapons are an EE-3 carbine blaster rifle and Westar-34 pistols. Boba Fett owns a variety of specially-modified and well-armed starcraft bearing the names Slave I through Slave IV. Despite his weapon-laden suit of armor, Fett is a subtle hunter and relies as much on his cunning and intelligence as on pure muscle and combat skill. Fett is also known to have an R2 astromech droid.

Fett is usually in peak condition (he is strong enough to hold off against massively strong foes such as Bossk), as seen in the Bounty Hunter Wars trilogy. In every appearance in the Star Wars universe save Attack of the Clones, his face remains hidden.

During the shooting of The Empire Strikes Back, Lucasfilm was in grave danger of bouncing its paychecks? Bank of America, its primary lender, yanked its financing as the film's costs climbed over budget. Lucasfilm's management pointed out that Empire was the sequel to the most successful film of all time, but the bank's new entertainment manager refused to back down. This debacle forced George Lucas to return to Twentieth Century Fox for financing, a threat to his creative autonomy that he had wanted to avoid.
